| I was checking through different tech articles this afternoon when up pops this little gem on CNET - FBI wants widespread monitoring of 'illegal' Internet activity "In response to questions from Rep. Darrell Issa, a California Republican, Mueller said his proposed legislation "balances on one hand the privacy rights of people receiving information with...the necessity of having some omnibus search capability, utilizing filters that would identify illegal activity as it goes through, and allow us the ability to catch it at a choke point." Issa suggested he would support such legislation. If Mueller's omnibus-monitoring proposal became law, it could implicate the Fourth Amendment's guarantee of freedom from unreasonable searches and seizures. In general, courts have ruled that police need search warrants to obtain the content of communication, and the federal Wiretap Act created "super warrant" wiretap orders that require additional steps and judicial oversight. In addition, it's unclear whether "illegal activity" would be limited to responding to denial-of-service attacks and botnets, or would also include detecting other illegal activities, such as online gambling, the distribution of "obscene" images of adults engaged in sexual acts, or selling drugs without a license." I have an idea.... Why not tell the Honorable Darrell Issa to take a hike. | ||||||||||||

Another liberal story about immigrants from that horrible leftist newspaper... "If present trends continue, within two decades the proportion of immigrants in the United States will surpass the peak reached more than a century ago, a new analysis concludes. The Pew Research Center, a nonpartisan research group, estimates that sometime between 2020 and 2025, the foreign-born will account for 15 percent of the American population, or more than 1 in 7 residents. They represented about 12 percent of the population in 2005, 14.7 percent in 1910 and about 15 percent in the late 19th century." http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/11/us/11cnd-immig.html?_r=1&hp&oref=slogin I wish I got tired of this story, but people seem to love hating on other people just because...Sean

President
Bush has nominated a staunch anti-choice
activist,
someone who has also served for years as a Board member of a
right-wing,
anti-gay organization, to a lifetime appointment on the U.S. District
Court for
The Senate
Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing
on the
nomination of Richard Honaker on February 12 -- a hearing that Senator
Feinstein will chair. Make sure she hears from her constituents that
Honaker
must not be confirmed. Please call now and ask your friends to do the
same. Given the
Senate's practice of not moving
controversial
judicial nominees once the country is in the midst of the presidential
election
season, as it is now, the Committee should not proceed with this
nomination. Richard
Honaker has worked vigorously to undermine
women's
reproductive freedom. Mr. Honaker has written that abortion is "wrong,
and
no one should have the right to do what is wrong." As a Wyoming state
legislator, Mr. Honaker in 1991 introduced a bill entitled the "Human
Life
Protection Act" that would have prohibited abortion, except to protect
a
woman's life or in cases of incest or
rape, but then only if the victim had reported the crime within five
days of
its occurrence -- a highly unrealistic requirement in many instances. He has a
disturbing record on government
neutrality toward
religion and a legal philosophy that threatens church-state separation. Mr. Honaker believes that the Bible is
"true in law," and has publicly disparaged non-"Judeo-Christians"
as unable to sustain "political liberty." Mr. Honaker
is a longtime board member of the Home
School
Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) -- an extreme right-wing, anti-gay
organization that, despite its name, has taken liberty-restricting
positions on
a range of matters that have nothing to do with home-schooling. A
report in
Salon quoted one observer of the Christian right as noting that "HSLDA
and
similarly motivated organizations . . . are major players behind recent
efforts
to mandate creationist curriculum and attack environmental education,
sex-education, and multicultural classroom material." And HSLDA has
created an "army of eager teen activists . . . called Generation
Joshua," to "help defeat the giants of abortion, same-sex marriage
and judicial activism." Why should you care about a federal judge in another state? As a judge on the U.S. District Court for the District of Wyoming, Honaker's bad decisions could be looked to by judges in other states as persuasive precedent, and thus could affect all Americans. Women's rights advocates in Wyoming as well as leading national women's rights organizations, including NOW, the National Women's Law Center and NARAL Pro-Choice America, also oppose Mr. Honaker's confirmation, as do many other groups, including Americans United For Separation of Church and State and the Alliance for Justice. ![]() Sean

So the Mitt'ster is dropping
out. Boy this has to have the far right bubbling - Now all the
far right has is Mr. Huckabee... And a not very electable Mr. Huckabee.
With Rush saying he'll vote for Hillary over McCain it looks pretty
grim for Mr. McCain, or does it? I suspect that Mr. McCain will be
reaching out to the uber-right wierdo religous freaks soon... yippie. I
for one am glad to see Romney gone. I could have been slightly
interested after seeing taxes go down, revenue up, Gay marriage (for
awhile) and a realistic Health Insurance plan working in Mass. But no,
the Mitt'ster decides he is against gay marriage, abortion etc and
tried to be the uber-right wierdo religous freak choice... didnt get
him too far. The real uber-right wierdo religous freak (Huckabee) won
the uber-right wierdo religous freak States in the south... Oh well. ![]() Politicians
just don't seem to learn I guess.

| So yet
another indicator comes in to wall street showing that the Economy is
indeed shrinking. The market,
after somehow forgetting these numbers were coming, reacted in kind.
Still the "Anti-Global Warming / Dinosuars didnt exist / The Iraq war
is going well" crowd is still saying the economy is fine. Sean

you know, there has been a increase in the amount of Anti-Immigrant
emails being forwarded. Do people realize that next Tuesday is a very
big day in American politics? That one way to sway the vote one way or
another is to play the race card... er, I mean the Anti-Immigrant card.
This isnt new and niether are the arguements, just the faces have
changed. Immigrants do have an impact on the economy, good and bad. Do
a search at the PEW Charitable
Trusts Foundation, one of the best Non-partisan organisations in
the
world. Depending on your views you'll be happy and mad, because the
truth be known, we need cheap labor and a lower working class but it
comes with a price. We've been living with that 'Price for more then
150 years and we've done alright all things considered.- Check
out this bunch of same Anti Immigrant hype we've endured for 150+ years!
Best of luck to you all. Sean
